Ah, that explains it, I wasn't paying too much attention to the supports that night - mainly because they weren't the WH.

Which is somewhat annoying seeing as I bought pretty much everything they ever released.

Hold on, wasn't Brixton support Apes Pigs and Spacemen and 3 Colours Red? They have only played Brixton once right?

That's what I'd always thought - and probably explains why I didn't remember them. Did they have three supports?

Actually, seeing as Stidi was given the boot by Ginger, would they really have gone on tour together?

Stidi was definatley the drummer for Whatever when they supported the Wildhearts, although he didnt last long and they got another one simply called Daz but Stids was definatley the drummer on that tour.

I don't really know the story of why Stidi left/went was he booted out? maybe they were on the tour for the other dates. I am pretty sure they weren't at Brixton cos that was the first WH show I ever saw and I remember 3CR and AP&S. I don't think I have ever seen Whatever.

They must have both played and I have forgotten Whatever's set (been a long time afterall) but I am 100% positive that 3CR supported too and it was in their very early days yeah.

Not too long ago, didn't we have The Darkness supporting the WHs in the UK, followed by some US dates of the WHs supporting The Darkness...

Amen might have been on the UK bit too.

In fact wasn't that where Ginger's tour diary came from?

Whatever didn't play the Brixton show, it was just the two previously mentioned bands. I think it was one of those tours when their were a handful of acts splitting the tour between them. I've probably got a poster telling me who played what night, but that would be at my parents a couple of hundred miles away.

The Jellies supported at Shepherds Bush on the Endless Nameless tour, it was the only night they played.

And I'm sure someone mentioned Panters before, but it's disappeared now. They supported Pantera in a one off show at the Marquee, either in 92 or 93. They were both East West bands, so my guess is that's how they got the gig.

With reference to Whatever supporting the wildhearts... I seem to remember that during a UK tour in April 1996 the lineup was The Wildhearts, Real TV & Blameless, Blameless left/got kicked off the tour after just 1 or 2 gigs so some of the dates were filled in by Whatever and some by 3CR (this was early in 3CR's career and the first time I saw them).

Talking of 3CR, I remember them doing a tour or gig with Stereophonics supporting!! and then like someone mentioned earlier Muse and The Donnas have supported them as well.

Yeah, I agree - twas 3CR & A,P&S at Brixton in the show mentioned above.

Haven't seen Dog Toffee mentioned anywhere else yet. They were on before The Darkness a few years back

A handful of shows, yeah. Then they went on the Darkness tour.

I was lucky to see them on a smaller venue on that tour in Columbia, MO.

Phew, so the old grey matter's still holding together then. I remembered these two, and it would've been odd to completely blank out just one band.

they did a tour together very early on, either just before or just after generation terrorists came out, pretty small shows and very mental. They were due to support them again but the gigs got postponed and I have a feeling they didn't do the rearranged dates - they were Brixton sized venues, can't remember if they were supposed to do the whole tour or just London.

Jason_scorching_past wrote:Well just cos the Wildhearts formed around that era and played with some of the bands doesn't automatically make them a similar band, I imagine they blew Love/Hate off the stage.

I say I imagine as I have no idea what Love/Hate sound like or whether they were any good. The Wildhearts have toured and played with so many different bands that it doesn't really have much reflection on the type of band they are, other than "rock".

From what i remember at the time The Wildhearts refused to be pigeon holed into aparticular scene.Hence the tours with different types of bands like Love/Hate and the Manics.

For whatit's worth i thought Love/Hates first 2 albums were excellent.Despite being part of the hair metal scene their stuff was way too weird for Hair Metal.

You can now download all their albums free here

Blackout in the Red Room and Wasted are America are worth a listen.A few tracks on Lets Rumble are decent as well.
