PHUQ

Postby hoodedclaw » 8th Dec 08, 20:31

With "Getting It" getting a regular slot back in the set, and following a blinding version of Caprice in Manchester, I 've hd PHUQ on in the car all day. Such a good album. I'd forgotten what a brilliant song "Be My Drug" is.....it would be awesome live.
Has anyone else ever re-dscovered a neglected Wildheats gem in thei collection?

After hearing Caprice last night I put P.H.U.Q in the car this morning, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Jonesing for Jones, Just in Lust and Cold Patootie Tango.... but then whilst updating my iTunes, I realised I hadn't listened to Yoni in ages, and have spent most of the afternoon singing along to that (luckily for my neighbours, I've got the voice of an angel - ahemImage) playing Smile in Denial and Jake a few times extra for good measure.Image

For years I was only aware of the existence of EVTW. I got FFL at a record convention a couple of years later, and that gradually surpassed EVTW as my favorite. This was before the internet... but as soon as I was able to I got online and discovered the rest. At that point they were up to Endless Nameless. I got everything I could get my hands on and PHUQ quickly became my favorite. By the time the TWMBD came out I came to the realization that, at least for me, The Wildhearts had had a "prime period". DBHJW was their testing grounds, where maybe they hadn't grown into their own skin... but they blasted hard with the three albums that came directly after that. EVTW, FFL and PHUQ became the Big Three... and then Endless Nameless was some kind of weird cross between an ultimate climactic masterpiece and an utter disaster... ultimately not quite making the cut as one of the big three. TWMBD/Coupled With came along and I saw something of a decline. Around this time FFL reclaimed the throne as my favorite album.... of all time, not just this band, by the way... and then TW07 happened and it was definitely a big step in the right direction but still miles away from the Big Three. At some point since then, and I'm not sure how or why, I've gone back home and ETVW is now once again the greatest album ever recorded by anyone, once again... followed closely by FFL and then by PHUQ.

I bet that wasn't worth reading at all. Sorry about that.

I'm the same. I go through periods where one album sits in the player as my favourite. I still think that The White album is the pinnacle musiclly, though Earth Vs occupies the Best Album In The World ever slot for intangible reasons.

fishing for luckies is my favourite. the version with the fish on the front. the epic songs are just that - fucking EPIC, the short songs are perfect little pop/thrash nuggets, and of all their albums i feel it's the one with the best riffs. come on - when that huge main riff drops near the start of inglorious, shit is ON!!!
IF THERE'S A SOUND YOU PLAY THAT DOESN'T FIT TODAY,
WHY NOT JUST PLAY THE BASTARD ANYWAY?!
