Does this bloke know what he is on about?

here are some blokes reviews on Gingers solo stuff on Play.com - he obviously doesnt appreciate the diverstiy of Ginger.

Ginger - Market Harbour | CD
2/5
borrow it off a mate.
I'm a big fan of the wildhearts but this is so poor. 21 tracks for £9.99 sounds like a bargain, but not when there are only 2 good songs. save your money and let a mate buy it first.

Ginger - Yoni | CD
1/5
Oh dear! This is poor. I can't say anything good about this. If you really want to listen to this borrow it off a mate. Save your money.

Ginger - A Break In The Weather (2CD) | CD
1/5
i've been a Wildhearts fan for years. Ginger wrote these songs but his usual standards have slipped. His time in America has a large influence on this cd. If you like Country music or "soft rock" this is for you. If you think this is going to be like The Wildhearts, dont buy it.

Each to their own... I worked in a CD shop for years and finally got fed up of trying to 'educate' people. Let them listen to Dido, Coldplay, Eva Fucking Cassidey and David Gray in their middle class, considerably better than you, pinot grigio & casual cocaine abuse induced ignorance

But like the Murphys.... I'm not bitter :D

hey - the guy is entitled to his opinion and his main criticism is that the solo stuff doesn't sound like the wildhearts, which with the exception of one or two tracks is true.
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

thats the beauty of his solo work - id be dissapointed if i got his solo albums and they Wildhearts mark 2 - what would be the point of that? he might as well release them with the Wildhearts mighten he?
i agree that a break in the winter isnt his best stuff it ok but the other 3 are masterpieces

I know what you mean but...

Those at the top are not really reviews are they? they're more disgruntled views of something, no actual breakdown of the product as a whole.

Weak views.

i think MH is a classic album but for me YONIs only strength is the superb performances of the guests and musicians

my honest opinon is this:

break in the weather - 3/5 - a bit patchy for someone of gingers standards
Velor De Corzon - 4/5 - a good honest album
Yoni - 5/5 - dont like smile in denial at all but an amazing album
Market Harbour 5/5 - a few to many 1 min fillers but other than that superb
PHUQ, FISHING FOR LUCKIES, EARTH VS, ...MUST BE DESTROYED, DONT BE HAPPY,ENDLESS NAMELESS, THE WILDHEARTS, COUPLED WITH , ....STRIKE BACK,

To criticise Ginger's solo work for not being like the Wildhearts is pathetic - as someone else above said - 'What would be the point if it sounded like the Wildhearts?'

'A Break In The Weather' may be a bit 'hit & miss' in places, but there are some great songs on there.

I loved Ginger's first two solo albums and have played them a hell of a lot - good thing CDs (or MP3s ripped from them) don't wear out. To be honest I haven't played 'Market Harbour' anything like as much, although I expect I'll 're-discover' it eventually when I get more time to listen to it properly...
