Market Harbour lyrics

Postby Ben Wright » 14th Mar 08, 23:55

Over the past week I've been really hit by some strong lyrics in MH.

The music hit me straight away (I've been yearning for someone in rock to do a full album without any breaks). But the words took a while before they sunk in. Just wondered what lyrics on the album everyone else loves

Mine are:

Queen of Leaving: "She changes like the tide / But she's colder than the sea"

Attentionette: "All my life is waiting for you to shine / And all my life is back on the grapevine".

House of Moths: "My soul begins sliding like rain as it glides by my window"

Awareness: "A loving god would not bribe with the afterlife"

Couple Trouble: "Falls through your fingers like water in your hands"

And my fave (which I only just got this evening) - Shatterproof : "How can you kill something that will not die?"

You are aware that Sky Chaser High is in the form of a classic blues rhythm, as is Couple Trouble?

The reason they sound similar is that they borrow from the same sources. In fact I think if you check SCH is credited as a 'traditional' arrangement. Believe me there are hundreds of 'great songs' which are just in fact copies of the melodic structure of others.

Hell, SG5's 'Boys are better than girls' is classic 12-bar blues, which is identical to literally hundreds of songs.

Whilst talking aout MH lyrics, does anyone know the lyrics to You & Me - most if not all are straightforward, but there's the one word I can't get - the line "You & me & ........" It sounds like "you & me & yyyyow" kind of spoken in a black county accent.

Aplogies for sounding dim - my 3 year old loves the song - mainly due to the round and round the garden laughing bit - but I haven't got a clue what that word is!

it's probably something reeeally obvious

I think the lyric is:

You and me and now

As in [I want] You and me and [I want it] now

I might be wrong, but that what it sounds like to my (tinnitus infected) lugholes.
