An idea.......maybe unfeasible but who knows

Postby wez_wildheart » 11th Oct 07, 11:02

maybe, and just maybe an idea that has been discussed before.

how about a paypal or bank acc where we would all set a direct debit for a tenner or so to go in each month that would go directly to help finance the band

it need not be seen as a 'charity case' as such but an extra reserve for the band to dip into for promotion purposes in the magazines, recordings, DVD's so on and so forth

the way i see it is thats its a few less on a pint or 2 every month. Again i dont wanna sound weird but it would surely be us FANS doing nothing more than giving back to a band that has given a hell of a lot to us.

if this was a feasible idea, had the support of the band and they were aware of the understanding and reasoning behind it, it could just work.some guys here have been very creative woith photoshop designs, launch a proper Wildhearts army.i mean lets look at what physical, positivesl and metal enjoyment the band has brought to each and every one of us.

i remember doing something similar a few years ago for a non profit gig collective in Belfast. We managed to promote a gig featuring local acts, ran a raffle with a kindly donated t-shirt signed by The Almighty, vodka, beer as prizes. I think on the night we rasied in total £1500

any feedback and suggestions would be gladly accepted.who knows.i just feel we as loyal fans of this band through thick and thin could do something, anything?

I don't believe the WH need to do that. Every gig I've attended of Ginger / Wildhearts has been reasonably attended so times and music sales can't be that bad. I'm sure they'd rather you put money to charity or more beer!

I'd be happy paying a little money but for something... and I'm sure the majority agree with me. Hey I'm not skint, but I need to work hard for my money... and want something if I shell out.

This something could be t-shirts, fan club, fanzine, exclusive downloads, the list is endless.

If they needed more money for promotion, I'm sure they could do it, I don't believe it's a lack of money that's failing to chart a WH single (plenty of reasons elsewhere on here). They've simply released a single with no marketing because they've got other things to think about like making more music, touring in the US, a december UK tour, etc. Some would argue they're not hungry enough, but hey they're not 21 anymore and throwing money into media advertising is very expensive.

Sorry Wez, I think you're hearts in the right place (pardon the pun), but handing over money to a rock band for marketing - you won't get many takers.

I really don't like this idea at all to be honest. I think its cool to do this kinda thing to help out local bands that are just starting out and are absolutely desperate for the cash, but it's a bit embarassing to donate when a band is as old as The Wildhearts. Especially as their squandering of the money they did make back in the day is legendary. Besides they can't be THAT poor can they? They have a decent life and don't have to go to a shitty job everyday to get by. As fans we go to the gigs, we buy the albums, we buy the singles and we buy the merchandise. I think that should be as far as it goes.

I've got an idea too.

I work really hard in my chosen work, it's a really tough job and the pay isn't that great. So why don't you all donate me some money every month? Come on its a only a little less on a pint or two each month!

ok guys that was good feedback and again appreciated but robdj i didnt see any need to take something i said and use it to sound fucking arsey as that post certainly came across as such.if it was an attempt at light hearted humour then fair enough

yep a bad idea and the sounds of me rambling early in the morning

its just fucking frustrating that this band by and large do not receive the level of success that they rightly should have.sorry for getting carried away

Yeah was meant to be humorous - sorry should have stuck a smily in there.

At the same time, I think that by buying the albums, T Shirts, singles and the going to the gigs everybody on here already supports the wildhearts an awful lot. Who else will i have paid to see live 6 times this year?

No offence meant :D

It's a great idea but why not give the money to NSPCC or similar?

And who else would go to see their favourite band more than once in a year??

If you go on a straw poll of my mates, I doubt whether many of them would do so, there are about 4 that are hard core gig goers, the rest, well, they wouldn't even pay to see their favourite band once, granted, most of them are indie pop (ie FF, Kasabian etc)freaks, so you just need to see one gig and you've seen the lot

I usually see several bands more than six times in a year - and if the Wildhearts played in London more than once a year then I would certainly to to see them more than once as well.

The best way to help support the Wildhearts financially is just to keep buying gig tickets, CDs, and merch. And you get loads of cool stuff too - everybody wins! :D

I don't know about just "giving" them money... but if they want to release a new live album, or a new ginger acoustic album, or a best-of with 3 new tracks, or things like that, every year, I'll keep buying them. I doubt the production costs on GWM and PAY and LBA40 were all that much, and Ginger got a tenner for each one. Same concept.
