THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NEWKY/NEWKIE BROWN.
IT CAN BE DOG, BROON OR A BOTTLE OF BROWN ALE.
NEWKY OR NEWQUAY IS IN CORNWALL AND NOT THE NORTH EAST
NEWQUAY HAVE THERE OWN ALES, NEWQUAY STEAM BITTER & LAGER WHICH ARE DIFFERENT TO THE ONE AND ONLY.
IF YOU ORDER A NEWKIE BROWN YOU ARE THEREFORE TELLING EVERYONE YOU ARE NOT FROM NEWCASTLE.
****CALMING DOWN NOW**********
Newcastle Brown Ale had been granted Protected Geographical Indication status by the EU. Since Scottish and Newcastle moved production south of the river, the future of its PGI status is uncertain. As of December 2006, an application to cancel its PGI status is being considered.
And quite right too.

Do you have to pretend to be from Newcastle to drink it? My London accent would tend to be a bit of a givaway in any case.geordierussell wrote:IF YOU ORDER A NEWKIE BROWN YOU ARE THEREFORE TELLING EVERYONE YOU ARE NOT FROM NEWCASTLE.

I am often to be seen clutching a bottle of it - only the other day someone who actually is from Newcastle saw me with one and said "Still drinking that old shit then?"
