Oxford today, London tomorrow

Postby Nomad » 29th Apr 07, 16:46

Oxford Zodiac - for sure the smallest venue I've ever seen the Wildhearts in. Kind of like the places Honeycrack used to play. GUMedicine were great. Sign - hmmm. We thought the guy really wanted to be Sebastien Bach when they came on, and then they covered "Youth Gone Wild" to press the point home. It about filled up for Ginger and the boys, and they were pretty tight. Not too much of the new stuff, thankfully, so everyone knew what was being played. I ain't heard it yet, you may gather...

Some nice old Tshirts to be seen (including a Reading '94 one like I've nearly worn to death), I just had to do with whatever my brother had left behind - an S.O.D. one in this case, with the grasshopper.

All done by 10:10. Thankfully the beer was back on in the Hobgoblin next door by then. Chatted with a group from Maidenhead, who'd driven up this time as last time they saw the Oxford gig, the last train was at about 11pm, and Ginger launched into Sky Babies about 5 mins before they had to leave. Don't take me with you when you go!

"Kite, I got the tickets"
"Sitting or standing ?"
"Standing"
"Oh fuck, I've been to work and my feet will ache"
"Yeah I know"

Rock 'n Roll lifestyle eh guys 'n gals.

to anyone who has not seen them yet - don't worry about the early finish/ short playing time - there is no rest from the first chord to the last and you will be utterly knackered! i don't think me lungs, throat or knees could have taken much more at london last night.
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

Agreed - the set they're playing at the minute is relentless - I was shattered by the end of it. Which was a good thing... I knew I had been at a gig.

went to the wolves gig last night and was blown away, fair play to ritch and scott cuz the wildhearts were on such good form fresh, energetic, seriously tight and proper fun.

without a doubt the best gig i've seen them play since the 90s - coupled with the fact that some of the tunes off the new album are some of their best tunes since phuq, i hope they finally get the success they deserve!
the set was pretty much the same as the other gigs on this tour.

i think its strange how they played more from WMBD than the new one, personally i'd have loved to hear slaughtered authors or new flesh or bi polar baby... i read that they dont like it when people stand around when they play new songs, but last night i thought that people were stood around for nexus icon and stormy in the north more than anything else they played, whereas rooting for the bad guy was so fucking immense, people responded accordingly :D

Agree, at London thought set lost momentum a bit with Stormy (which is one the wildhearts weakest songs IMHO) and OCD.
The Revolution and Rooting on the other hand, saw the crowd really moving. Think Bi-Polar would be brilliant too

yeah i agree, stormy and OCD aint great songs at all. i'd much prefer to hear some of their more 'obscure' stuff live than them songs - i mean yeah people recognise stormy and OCD, but they're kinda fillers IMO - considering how tight as a band they were last night, even if people havent heard tunes like (for example) the song formally known as or news of the world or inglorious (i could go on!), they'd be such great live songs people would 'get it' straight away, those songs sell themselves maaaan!!
