The Wildhearts Strike Back

Postby boonsfarm » 15th Oct 06, 07:02

Beaming in from California, USA--

As a guy who thinks about his music as he gets older, I've really been discovering The Wildhearts. I live in America...but I was born in England. But that doesn't matter when I listen to OCD and Lake of Piss from Riff after Riff (the only release you can get afforably in the US--I got mine for $6.99 2 years ago).
I picked up The Wildhearts Strike Back tonight. $30 bux from Amoeba but well worth it. Vanilla Radio and OCD live are worth it alone. I was happily surprised that Jase Edwards prouced that album. A quality guy--I had the pleasure of working with him during the NYC '06 dates. And an amazing guitarist--ask him to play some Van Halen.

What do the real Wildhearts fans think of that album? Would love to know.

Is there such a thing as a fake fan? If you like 'em, you're a real fan, you included! :D

I like it. It's loud and boomy. Some people think it sounds quite 'clean', but the fact is that they were so well rehearsed and playing so well on that tour, that's how it sounded in the crowd...

Clean?? Hmmm, unless you mean clear, and indeed, ahem, crystalline....

It just sounded like a band at the top of their game to me: like what Damian said... :D

I've heard some people complaining about an apparent lack of atmosphere but to me it sounds great too!

I think it's the best "proper" live album they have put out.
Good playing, good sound. Who cares if it has beenn put together from several show.
It rocks!

Having seen them put on another fantastic show last night in London, I thought I'd better get round to buying The Wildhearts Strike Back. Trouble is, I can't work out whether the tracklist varies between the vinyl and the CD. I'd rather have the vinyl but not if it's missing loads of tracks. Can anyone give me the definitive track listings?

Cheers

I think its great, better than the Geordie in Wonderland live CD released last year. Although ...Strike Back does leave out some WH classics I feel it is fantastic. Good buy there.
Being a Wildhearts fan rocks.

Strike Back was the first wildhearts album I ever owned - they really are amazing live, and I think the album did capture that - unlike so many bands who don't seem to be able to sing or play in time or in tune!

So saying, I'm not a fan of Potatoes & You - I cringe when Ginger goes out of tune, and he forgets the words a couple of times. Although, there's a lot of good banter with the crowd - the atmosphere must have been great on the night!

You lose quite a few tracks on the vinyl but you gain Weekend, so I guess it's a toss up. But unless you desperately want weekend...? :?

It's my least favourite live WH album but that doesn't make it bad. Anarchic Airwaves has the best songs (earth vs. era), Tokyo Suits Me is the best performance and has that charming bonus acoustic disc. TWSB is good, but to me, just not great.

edit: Whoops. I forgot about Geordie In WOnderland, with its muddy sound and highly unnecessary existence. That's the worst one.

?????? JEEZ...I know we all have our own opinions, but "Potatoes" is pure classic relaxed fun. I would actually take Potatoes over Valor or Yoni.......

.....stands back and waits for the firing squad
