Postby SteveP » 19th Jan 07, 14:47

I'm up in Glasgow on monday to see the other half, so I decided we'd take in the gig.

What's the place like??, camera policy, drinks prices etc

Cheers

Pretty much like every dive bar you have ever been to.

Gig will be in the downstairs bit.

Drinks prices are pretty average, I can't remember exact prices but i wasn't too bad if I'm right. Might have changed though.

Camera policy is cool although I think it's generally down to the artist. At the last Ginger gig in the Classic Grand it was no camera policy but people just took pictures anyway.

Excellent gig last night. Was it ever going to be anything else??

The Yoni tracks were great. Only got the album delivered yesterday so only had a chance to listen to it once before I had to go for the train. Sounds extremely promising!!!!

As usual the SG5 and Wildhearts tunes were great as was everything off of Valor....
I think it was pretty much the same set list as the previous shows.

Met Ginger afterwards. Me and my 2 brothers wandered back downstairs sometime after the show and he was at the bar chatting to a couple of blokes.
Mark got one or two pics of us with him that I'll post once he sends me them.

Took a bit of a beamer when my bro Mark said to him "my wee brother's your biggest fan. It'll be great to get a picture of you two together!!" He was very accomodating it has to be said!!!!

Great night all round!!! Now, just got to get work out the way so I can get back to my kip and get this hangover to fuck!!!!!!
Did you lie to us, Tony?

After not enjoying the last two Ginger gigs in Glasgow, I wasn't sure what to expect. There is only one word to describe last night - SUBLIME (just double checked definition: "worthy of adoration", that sums it up!!)

The set-list was fantastic and kept the crowd hungry for more. During The Grand gig, the crowd seemed to lose interest half way through but not tonight - he could have played all night and we would still have been jumping. It is usually difficult for bands to play new unheard songs, but these beauties were just so catchy. I think the Barfly is probably the best Glasgow venue for Ginger to play.

What a night!!

Oh and Robochrist - genius!! First time I'd see him and loved every minute!

Glad it was a good gig, I missed it last night due to feeling so unwell. Had the bug with all the dizziness and sick, was in my bed at 9pm.
First time I have missed a ginger related gig in Glasgow for 11 years. My mates were all so shocked, one even popped into my work to see me as he wanted to make sure I was ok.
But fingers crossed for the WH tour and the next DVD as well.

Who was the guy that introduced himself to my bro-in-law? Alas, bro's not too computer literate hence he's not a "boardee". Tells me that apart from a few technical sound problems, the whole night was a blast. Got me one of Random's picks...bless him. It's tough to read these great reviews from such a distance.

Keith, that was me!!, you said he'd have his RJP t shirt on, I had mine on too, it was as we were both going into the toilets at the end of the gig.

Someone had a go at the guitar tech, Ginger said, 'he's half Scottish and half Mackem'
Some lass down the front shouts 'There's nowt wrong with being a mackem'
Dopey me from the back shouts 'There's nowt right with being a mackem'
Cue several Glaswegians turning round to have a look at the foreigner with the Geordie accent and said Geordies' Glaswegian girlfriend cringing and turning away

Set list:

Black Windows
Yeah Yeah Yeah
So Into You
Drinking In The Daytime
Brain Sugar
Why Can't You Be Normal All The Time (which slid into the themes from The Professionals and The Sweeney)
This s Only A Problem
Can't Drink You Pretty
When She Comes (With RJP doing the female moaning in the middle 8)
Eager To Leave Er
That's When I Reach For My Revolver
I Wanna Be New
Answering Machine
The Night I Was Born Again
Sonic Shake
29x The Pain

Class gig, the girlfriend had only recently found the Wildhearts (with some influence from me), she thought it was great, thought The God Damn Whores were brilliant, didn't believe me when I said the same line up would be back on for the main artists. Robochrist was fab, great laugh, mental samples, great make up, spoilt by the drunken c*** that stood next to us and couldn't stand straight, was forever pulling the hair of the bloke in front of us and generally being a twat.
As Keith's bro in law said, Jase's guitar decided it didn't want to play ball about 15 mins into the GDW set.

Gig Review

GINGER *****

BARFLY, GLASGOW, JANUARY 22

In the mid 90s, The Wildhearts were one of Britain's most successful rock bands. Here, former frontman Ginger showcased tracks from his solo album Yoni - aided by a bigriffing, hard-hitting backing band.

They launched into Black Windows, the song's reggae-tinged verse and upbeat chorus ensuring a good response. But at six minutes long it felt drawn-out and convoluted - a problem other tracks suffered from. At least Wildhearts classic 29xThe Pain provided a happy ending.

Does this guy just give 5 stars to everybody?

He's right about Biffy though - they were fantastic in Brum the other night. :)

It was a tremendous gig last Monday, and I'd agree the best Ginger in Glasgow gig in a while. There was one crowd member who was out of the game and chucked his Motorhead t-shirt at the sound guy. He then cheered for ages wanting The Wildhearts until I reckon somebody whispered it was a Ginger gig

If that was you please step forward - you must have had one wild hangover!

Ginger was on top form - I actually prefer when he hits us with loads of songs and cuts on the banter a bit - which is did perfectly in the Barfly.

Roll on April / Summer / The Wildhearts! or more Ginger please!

Vanrad, I think that could have been the aforementioned "drunken c***" that I mentioned in my mini review, he stood and shouted for the Wildhearts all through Robochrist's set.
He was wearing a motorhead t shirt, green lettering on the back, so I presumed it was the Stone Deaf Forever box set cover on the front, as I never saw it.

Hmmm strange..the online version of that gave him 5 but the paper itself only gave the gig a 2 and was a wee bit longer than that in its review.
