Albums, singles, songs and general Ginger banter

Oh my bloody god, that was FANTASTIC!

Unable to think coherently right now, so a full write up will be over the weekend sometime, but rough setlist;

Black Windows
Yeah Yeah Yeah
So Into You
Drinking in the Daytime
This is Only A Problem
When She Comes
Brain Sugar
Can't Drink You Pretty
Eager To Leave 'Er
I Wanna Be New
Why Can't You Be Normal All The Time
Answering Machine (eventually, after Ginger forgot the lyrics and timing and burst out laughing half way through)
Sonic Shake
That's When I Reach For My Revolver
The Night I Was Born Again
29x the Pain

Roughly the right order, but not quite... a couple were additions to the setlist as requested by the crowd.

And wasn't it brilliant to see Ginger smiling so much?!

Oh, and lovely to meet some of you from here for the first time.

Where are people meeting up?, it would be good to chat to some fans. Also if anyone wants a lift from Derby just give me a shout

James.

Memorable moments from last night...

Jon's excellent set with the God Damn Whores, despite his very obvious chest infection that was making him feel crap - he even turned down a free beer! No surprises or new songs in their setlist, but tight and energetic as always.

Robochrist was as nuts and superb as ever - apparently it was the last tour that Chris is going to do as Robochrist, so if you possibly can, get yourself along to the next few gigs to see him. Seemed to go down really well with most of the crowd as well.

Ginger seemed to enjoy everyone singing along to Black Windows (understandably, seeing as it's been on myspace for a few months) but his look of bemusement as everyone sang along to 'When She Comes' was a picture. More than a few people seemed to have the album already, despite it not even being available at the gig.

Great to have a good mix of new, WH and SG5 songs - Brain Sugar always sounds fantastic live, and the crowd singalong turned up the notch even more in the packed out room. When they played 'Can't Drink You Pretty' (which Rich filmed, and will hopefully be going up on Google Video in the next few days) Ginger explained that it was one of his favourites from Yoni to play live, and they definitely enjoyed it despite Jon forgetting the words! Oh, and Ginger covered Jase's eyes with his hands for Jase's fantastic guitar solo - which he still pulled off perfectly.

Apparently, 'Why Can't You Be Normal All The Time' was written because "girls are beautiful, and we love them, but they're fucking weird like the Americans". Ginger logic for you!

My repeated shouts of 'Night I Was Born Again' got it added to the setlist, and Pooley's crazy bass solo sounded just as good live as on the record.

They didn't go off stage for the encore as it was running late, instead just staying on and playing through. Answering Machine had two starts after Ginger came in on the wrong line and then forgot the third line anyway; eventually, it was Ginger and Jon leading the whole crowd in shouts of 'beefy, beefy' throughout the chorus in homage to Robochrist. Crowd sang the first verse of 29x the Pain, the last songs, before Ginger and co bowed off stage . Denzil's drumming was just as good as Ginger's been reporting, and Ginger, Jon and Jase were just as brilliant as we've come to expect.

Oh, and the Xmess vs. The Wildhearts t-shirts were on sale for those who missed out at Wolvo.

Phew!

Yes, Ginger did laugh so hard at the reaction of the female portion of the crowd that he literally spat on me... We were rather indignant!

I would have thanked you very much Kris, if you had offered me a lift :)

As Ginger says, it's very different being sober at a gig, but I had a great time. Funniest moment was when Ginger said to me that I obviously wasn't in a band after I had requested a few songs, he said that had to rehearse them first. You would have thought they could have rolled Nurse Maximum straight out, wouldn't you?

Good to meet some fellow fans, thanks Hannah, Rich, Jim, Dave and Phil(?).

Just waiting for my copy of Yoni now.

Oops, as you could tell by the question mark I wasn't quite sure (I'm never usually that good at remembering names anyway!)

Good video, you can see Ginger was definitely enjoying himself.
