well at first i thought it was aparody of the newky brown logo

Image

And I always thought that newky brown logo looked a wee bit like converse

so I looked up the converse logo a while back and saw the idienticalness with the cj cover (only ever owned one pair of them a while back and I hate them - pain in the arse to get on and off)

RIGHT,
HERE IS THE THING THAT PISSES ME OFF MORE THAN ANY OTHER THING EVER.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NEWKY/NEWKIE BROWN.

IT CAN BE DOG, BROON OR A BOTTLE OF BROWN ALE.

NEWKY OR NEWQUAY IS IN CORNWALL AND NOT THE NORTH EAST

NEWQUAY HAVE THERE OWN ALES, NEWQUAY STEAM BITTER & LAGER WHICH ARE DIFFERENT TO THE ONE AND ONLY.

IF YOU ORDER A NEWKIE BROWN YOU ARE THEREFORE TELLING EVERYONE YOU ARE NOT FROM NEWCASTLE.

****CALMING DOWN NOW**********
Newcastle Brown Ale had been granted Protected Geographical Indication status by the EU. Since Scottish and Newcastle moved production south of the river, the future of its PGI status is uncertain. As of December 2006, an application to cancel its PGI status is being considered.
And quite right too.

F YOU ORDER A NEWKIE BROWN YOU ARE THEREFORE TELLING EVERYONE YOU ARE NOT FROM NEWCASTLE.

Surely ordering a dog at a bar will get me weird looks, given I have a Manc accent and am blatantly not from Newcastle? :P

I'm sticking with Newkie Brown, guv.

A well researched rant. Kudos.

I don't really mind the world knowing that I'm not from Newcastle though. My tendency to wear a coat when it's cold and my home counties accent will give it away, anyway

I did once walk into a pub in London and ask for "a brown ale" , to be confronted with blank looks. So I had to specify Newcastle, but there must have been a mistake, as I was presented with a bottle of brown bilge water with a "Newcastle Brown Ale" sticker on it.

And whilst I'm typing this tripe, do you suppose they'll have to rebrand it now it's not made in Newcastle? "Gateshead Brown Ale" doesn't have much of a ring to it, but it's better than "Pelaw Brown Ale" or "South Shields Brown Ale"...

Do you have to pretend to be from Newcastle to drink it? My London accent would tend to be a bit of a givaway in any case.

I am often to be seen clutching a bottle of it - only the other day someone who actually is from Newcastle saw me with one and said "Still drinking that old shit then?"
"and don't forget the joker!"

It's a bit sweet and it made me sick. That's all.

Still, I'm sure it fuelled a lot of the Wildhearts back catalogue so I guess I should stop moaning.

I wouldn't wash me feet with Double Maxim

Not that I would even drink Chateau Gallowgate either, 3 bottles just gets me wankered, I'll just stick to me football juice, the only stuff that doesn't give me gut rot the next day!!!!
