HWC was dismissed as (paraphrase) "Okay but there are better C&W spoofs around". They also thought "caffeine Bomb" was the best thing on there. IMHO, its the "odd one out" on the album - just shows how much Journo's know eh ?

I reckon the HWC is review pretty much spot on to be honest. The whole self conciously 'politically incorrect' lyrics thing gets pretty tired after one or two songs, and if it's supposed to be a comedy album there's a real lack of wit from the man who wrote 'Unlucky in Love'. The humour comes down to giggling at all those 'naughty' words you're not supposed to say-and that's it. Jerry Sadowitz gets away with that kind of stuff cos he turns it on the pathetic persona he's created for himself- and he does some awesome magic tricks. Here we basically have the same song times 14 with a load of really nasty, witless lyrics. Ween have already done it much better and managed to show their true affection for country music at the same time. I'm always interested to hear anything Ginger puts out but I'm not so blindly loyal to an artist that I can't say 'This is shit'. Seems most folks here love it though, but i really do think the emperor is undressed this time.. I guess a few words from Ginger explaining what he was trying to do with this album might be helpful.

i think that dairylea has a point. i heard caffeine bomb by howling and thought it was ok although i got a bit bored towards the end. listening to a whole album must be near to paint drying excitement. i wouldn't buy it especially not for 15 quid as mr ginger would like us to do. the whole concept seems a bit crap.

I dont think anyones sayingthey are the greatest lyrics EVAR. But I think theres some pretty witty/clever stuff in there - Hell, it makes me and Mrs. Kite smile, so it gets a tick in my book. Its great to singalong to

I don't actually own it, but I think it's probably one of those albums that your not ment to go "well this wasn't very good and that those lyrics were a bit iffy", and just enjoy it for the joke it is, it's not ment to be a masterpeice, that's not what it's going for.

And yet a lot of effort has clearly gone into it! Why, when it's just the sonic-country equivalent of a night out with Jim Davidson and Mike Reid?

The thing with 'the joke' is that i can't see who/what the joke is on- apart from the fans. Ginger knows his hardcore of fans will buy absolutely anything he puts out, even if it's a ropey country album with lyrics about extreme violence against gay people, the disabled, and women. Yes, i understand that it's intentionally 'outrageously offensive'- but so what?
Apart from his fans Ginger has basically given true bigots a completely authentic sounding party album.
