YES

I'm going to buck the trend here and say it IS the best Wildhearts album to date. It shows the band at height of their creative powers.

You want lots of heavy riffs? You got 'em.
You want sugary sweet melodies, and catchy-as-fuck songs? By christ you got em too.

Lyrically the band know when to get all serious and provoke thought (The Revoution Will Be Televised & The New Flesh), when to be fiery and angry (Destroy All Monsters & The Sweetest Song) and when just to have some dumb rock fun (Rooting For The Bad Guy). Like a bag of pick and mix it's got everything a rock fan could want.

And unlike Earth Vs the production is superb, unlike PHUQ there's no filler tracks, it doesn't sound rushed like The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed and the band aren't the verge of terminally heading south through their own narcotic misadventures like they did so noisly on Endless, Nameless.

What's more, to go through all the (mostly self-inflicted) turmoil like the band have done and to come out the other side, sounding fresher than people half their age and on double the budget is the sort of acheivement the Queen should be acknowledging in her next honours list.

PHUQ is one of my all time favourite albums so maybe I'm biased here but i honestly cant pick out any filler tracks on that album, there are tracks that are less good (Baby Strange) but they help with the flow of the album, any agree with the fella above me?

Im interested to see what you folks would consider filler.

For me the fillers are V-Day Baby Strange, Cold Patootie Tango and Naviety Play. Essentially good songs, but not great songs.

On the whole, PHUQ does not have the same cohesion Earth Vs or the Wildhearts does.

Originally it was supposed to be a double album, but EastWest vetoed the plan, (tracks like Schitzophonic and Inglorious recorded at some of the same sessions ended up on FFL) so that 's maybe why it doesn't progress logically enough for me.

Ahh thats fair enough, its wierd cuz when i was typing my last message out, i had a feeling you were gonna say Naivety play, and V-Day.

I think itd be interesting to see if they actually had the track listing all done out and if it would be possible to see what it would be then actually put the tracks together from FIshing and Phuq to see if it flowed more smoothly

I love Phuq and wouldnt say any tracks were fillers but if some stuff from FFL was on it like inglorious and underkill i think it would be even better although i'd struggle to drop any tracks from Phuq to get those two on it

Don't really see V-day as a filler at all :? Always quite liked that song. Naivety play maybe, tho it has a fairly meaty riff.

Still don't understand for a second how you can rate this album as their best....just don't see it. Earth vs may have slightly worse production (really suprisingly seeing as it's 15 years old....) but the lyrics, riffs, chorus' etc are on a different level to this album. And it's an amazingly consistant album, i bet most people on here can sing every riff and probably ever lyric from each track on it. And i dont think thats just its age, it's just a totally satisfying and memorable album.

But each to their own i guess. Some people just seemed amazingly easy to please. "OMG!! NEW WILDHEARTS STUFF! BEST THING THEY EVA HAV DUN!"

Guess we'll have to wait 5/10 years to see if it actually stands the test of time as earth vs has (still gets high in kerrangs top100 every time).

I really hope it doesn't take 5 or 10 years for some people to get this album - my god they'd be missing out on a corker. Perhaps it's that old Give Em Enough Rope Syndrome.....

"earth vs" is a really classic album but like you said it woz 15 years ago, times change ,people change. i`ve got some really cool memories of that album and the tours they did but damn it i want some fresh one`s. i don`t know whether i can say its their best album ever but i can say its on a par with "earth vs" and may well take over when they promote it properly live (eg play more than 2 songs from it) its a welcome release for me cause imo TWMBD was their weakest album release to date (to many fillers) so i can asure you i wasn`t saying "OMG!! NEW WILDHEARTS STUFF! BEST THING THEY EVA HAV DUN!" when that was released. hope this has been honest enough for ya
p.s. i luv v day 2

Didnt Ginge say that V-day was about the day that all the shit finally makes sense, maybe this album is their actual V-day, all the crap theyve had to go through to get where they are today (drug abuse, drinking problems major breakups and breakdowns), from what people have been saying they're totally re-energised live and touring cleanly, maybe this could be the album to throw them into the stardom theyve been deserving for all these years all that shit for one gem of fame.

If that makes sense to anyone Ill be very surprised. :?

No, it's not the best WHs album ever.

However, on the bright side, it IS a GOOD album and it is new Wildhearts material...so ENJOY!!!

Now I can't wait for the Flesh B-sides and the next album? Any mention of that by Ginger in the tour!!???!!!

I think if there will be another album it wont get released until maybe 2009 at the earliest.

Thats just not good enough. I demand another album this year, preferably b4 the Christmas tour, with another Ginger album, sonic circus album and an SG5 album in between.

Is it ok if I agree with both of you?

Some of the tracks on Phuq aren't there as songs meant to stand alone on their own, they are there to help the standout track next to it sound even better. That's ok though. But I can see what the original poster was getting at.
