what the hell is this cd?

in my local oxfam today i bought a cd for £1.99 - and i don't know what the hell it is! ( bear with me - there is a reason for me buying it._)

on the cover it says MH29 EXTREME ROCK. its from 2005 and appears to be on the Music House label.

here's the interesting part.

composer - Chris McCormack / Ritch Battersby

it's really wierd as well because there are 12 tracks, three of which are instrumentals. then there are instrumental versions of the tracks, then something called 30s. i've never seen a cd like this before.

sound wise its fuckin ace 8) :D

reminds me of Grand theft audio. quite dancey in places.

tracks are

anything you wanna do
everybody's having fun
it's gonna break your heart
lilac sky -(instrumental)
what are you wearing?
rock and roll suicide
empty souls
10 reasons you're wrong - co written by jay butler
torture garden
digital chaos -instrumental
compromise
chemicals - intrumental

there are little descriptions on the cover after each track like " rousing anthemic indie rock"
and " agressive nu metal retribuion".

:?: :?: :?: :?:

I was thinking this was some sort of promo for an album they were working on. There's one full track of each song, one minus vocals and then another 30 second sample clip (I'm guessing this is the 30s bit).

However after a bit more digging I've since found some online clips:
http://www1.playkmusik.com/pages/viewcd ... cdnum=4028

It seems the tracks were recorded as 'production music' to be used for film or TV and that's why there is the option to have the tracks with or without vocals. So if you were filming some TV cop drama and you wanted a bit of GTA-sounding guitar theme to your car chase, you'd pootle over to the website link above and download one track only, buying the rights to use it for your production. A bit like musical clip-art!

I love this type of cd for sampling,

There's a growing collection of production and TV music within the 'Hearts family.

i dunno - seems a bit of a waste to be just for telly etc. would have made a quality album.
i am loving "rock and roll suicide" and especially "compromise" ( whispered verses and big shouty chorus  8) )
