When were The Wildhearts last on the front cover of Kerrang?

When were the Wildhearts last pictured on the front cover of Kerrang or Metal Hammer? I reckon it was around Autumn 1999.

I've heard people in the past on here going on about e mailing Later With Jools Holland to get the band on the show. I think it would be better and maybe easier to get them back on the front cover of Kerrang? Long, long overdue.

Well it would be nice but I don't think they are seen as a big enough band these days unfortunately. I think if you have been around 10+ years you have to be like Green Day or Metallica to get the front page otherwise it tends to be up and coming bands.

I imgine also the number of WIldhearts fans who still buy Kerrang! is pretty low, as it is aimed more at a teenage/early 20s market.

I think you are right, I've never bought Kerrang... I used to read 'sounds' back in the day.... it would be nice though and it could help get a new bunch of people get into the band. Mind you cover or not, if they get a nice feature and review for the new album, I don't think it matters who's on the cover.

I used to buy it every week and it was good at the time, it me into a lot of great bands and Wildhearts featured heavily then at some point I must have just stopped buying it, I can't really pinpoint when it was or why; I think it was around the "Nu-Metal" era and mabe I just grew out of it or the bands featured didn't do mch for me.

I always preferred Raw and was gutted when without warning it turned into some crappy Indie magazine with features on Oasis, then promptly disappeared.

I don't think I even remember 'raw' ...... yeah, Kerrang does do a pretty good job of changing depending on what's popular at the time, Nu Metal, industrial, Punk, whatever ... I think that's why it's survived so long... but that's also the problem with it.... and why the WH's wouldn't get on the cover these days, they only cover what 'the kids' are listening to. I used to read 'Mojo' magazine which is good sometimes, but maybe a little too diverse for a lot of people. I could see Mojo doing a large feature on the WH's though.

It's definitely down to how popular a band is perceived to be. I reckon getting them on the cover would be a huge coup and probably wake up a lot of youngsters to The Wildhearts.
If the new album is loved by a few K! staff and they are perceived (whether they are or not) to being becoming more popular or even more 'credible', it's not impossible.

Incidentially trivia for you - Do you know who was on the last ever cover of 'RAW' before it went all 'indy' and died a few months later?
????????????

I'm sure it was the Wildhearts...I can picture Ginger now, bottle of Newcastle Brown in hand, and the interview was just before the 95 tour when there was the possibility of the band breaking up.

He means before it went crap and indie, the last proper rock cover, it would be fitting if it was The Wildhearts.

had a subscription up until late 99. pretty sure their last full-on cover was summer/early fall 97. t
was ginger pointing a gun at his head, headline read something like "I can´t do this anymore". featured an intervie with him and he was talking about all the drug abuse going on especially dany´s... lo and behold they split up a couple of weeks later.

can´t remember them being on the cover after that...

I set the question and yes I'm sure it was Ginger. I can remember looking at the new look Raw and thinking 'What have they done?' and hoping they would eventually revert back to feature the Wildhearts on their cover!

Here's to some more covers on NME, Q, Kerrang, Metal Hammer, etc.!

The final nail in my Kerrang coffin was when they began featuring Eminem, he's an average rapper with a DJ not a band.

Raw never suited being an Indie band mag, Raw doesn't really sound right doesn it? Select was better for that type of stuff and that died in 99 i think?
