I will go for straight in at the dizzy heights of 51.
There is nowhere near enough national publicity of marketing for it I'm afraid, let alone distribution.

i wouldnt expect many sales from the main Belfast store as i quote from shop worker ' we didnt order it as we knew it wouldnt sell, would have been a waste of time, i can order it for you though and we will have it in 7 days for you'

sad to say this but top 50 at best.
Reasons being
1. No mainstream press ads.
2. Video not on Kerrang/Scuzz etc etc, unless someone has seen it.
3. No poster campaign
4. Very very poor distribution
5. Little radio media coverage.
Thinking about it I'll revise me estimate to top75.

So how come "Stormy" got so high then? Must admit didn't have internet at the time or even know they were still going.
Then one evening sat down watching Top Of The Pops wth my other half and I'm whinging about all the crap bands then on come The Wildhearts!
Also this is my 1st post....hello all

Add to that the fact it really isn't even a very good song (certainly won't appeal to the "masses") and top50 seems even more unlikely.

Totally agree. With the best will in the world, if it can't be bought it won't chart.
I've looked in both Harrogate & York HMV & York Virgin - not a single copy in stock. If York doesn't have it then neither will smaller towns such as Scarborough. It's possible there's not a single copy to be bought in the whole of North Yorkshire. Looks like I'm gonna have to get on a train to Leeds later in the week and hope there's some left somewhere.
Stormy charted so well because of all the post-reformation goodwill, the huge buzz that had accompanied Vanilla Radio, and the fact that all 3 formats had exclusive material. This single is already 6 months old, it's only on 2 formats, there's only one new track to be had, and nobody's bothering to stock it. There's absolutely no buzz about it whatsoever.
I really don't understand this download-only strategy to kick off campaigns. It's been proved time and time again that it simply doesn't work.

Fuck the charts
all the charts do is sort out the schedule for the next episode of top of the pops or whatever shitty music program the other channels pull out of their arses.

Yeah - wait an inexplicable six months, take one of the least interesting songs from the album and release it with a single cover almost indistinguishable from the album's so that you might not notice it even if it was there in a shop and you were actually looking for it.
Wait for world to go on fire. Etc.

Well said! I thought the management of releases, PR etc would improve with Round records but it seems its just as frustratingly self destructive (or shit) as ever. I hate to say it but a pattern is emerging. Ginger's gunna get frustrated again and split the band up before long. I just hope they manage to get another album out ASAP and try and get some decent management.

oh for fucks sake can the yapping around the cover be wrapped up sometime soon?
take resolve in the fact that again i have to say is be bloody fucking thankful there still is a Wildhearts around to release singles.
wonder if those who are still bleating on about the situation address it with the band on the upcoming dates? i mean why not? take it to the people who know.lets face it we are not in the inner circle of The Wildhearts so none of us can really criticise the band at all regarding the single.yes we all want the band to get noticed and im sure any of us would help in any way possible...however crying, moaning etc is counterproductive.get behind them instead of complaining
sorry if this pisses anyone off but for fucks sake look at the bigger picture.im thankful they managed to even get a single out....and look forward to finally getting my mitts on it

The singles chart is pretty much meaningless these days - the only point I can see in them putting out a single is so that we can get hold of the Japan-only bonus tracks from the album over here.

Sorry to disagree.
Getting a song in the charts improves the recognition of the band.
More recognition = more sales
More sale = better PR and so it goes on.

The only reason to release singles nowadays is to have a video, and since only the bands with the biggest wad of cash behind them get on the music video channels there very simply is no point. As for the B-sides just put them on the album anyway as hidden tracks or if they are not good enough they don't make the cut. I'd like to see The Wildhearts become an album only band, so it sees the band only record, tour and rest (for other projects) and repeat.

i can see where you're coming from, but ginger's often said that b-sides aren't album throwaways, but often songs that were recorded specifically for a singles/EPs, or ones that just happened to be written between albums and got recorded in time for a single release. i know that some of the b-sides from the current album are exceptions to this rule, as they were previously released as bonus tracks, but there's nothing to suggest that they won't record more new songs for b-sides in the near future.
if the wildhearts were to stop releasing singles altogether, you'd be getting about half the amount of new songs you currently get. unless of course the lack of singles meant more frequent album releases. come to think of it, that's probably a better idea. i think i agree with you now actually!!!
