Answers On The Back Of A Postcard!

Postby Scott Manson » 15th Sep 07, 21:18

Can anyone answer any of these questions for me....?

1. Did Ginger ever write/record with Ricky Warwick of the Almighty?
2. How Many tunes did the Wildhearts record with former Scorchers frontman Jason Ringenberg?
3. Were any of the songs written by Ginger for Alice Cooper ever released/Bootlegged?
4. Is anyone able to e-mail me...The Moodswings Instrumental from the vinyl 'Luckies'? or 'Down On London' Bizzare Vinyl Version?
5. Has anyone apart from me ever heard of Ginger's ultra rare japanese Ep 'Project #1'? If so what was on it?
6. What was Gingers contribution to 'The Brides Of Destruction's' Runaway Brides album?

If you have any of these tunes then E-mail them to me @ Destroyallmonsters7@yahoo.co.uk

All replies will in subtle ways solve the headache these questions are causing me!!! Ha! Ha!

Cheers Y'all

Hey, some interesting questions that I know will be answered by our beloved Wildhearts "anoracks"

To answer your Q1, if Ginger and Ricky have written / recorded together then neither one of them has disclosed it to my knowledge. They have performed on various "one off" type occasions, the most recent being in LA a few years back when they performed Cheap Trick's Surrender It was around the time that Ginger and The Brides went separate ways.

Here's my guesses, i love quizzes:

1) This is from Ginger, 2005 - Been writing a ton of stuff, and I'm going to be writing with Ricky Warwick next week. He also has a solo acoustic spot at a place called The Joint, and I'm going to be getting up onstage with him next Wednesday (March 9) to play a few cover songs

2)In 2001 wildhearts/jason in the studio for track called one less heartache. It was for Jasons album. Dunno what else they recorder that day tho.

3)A Cooper never used the songs

4)No

5)Sonic shake + 4 tracks, no idea what they were tho.

6)I love this album. Ginger co wrote about half of them and they are not hard to spot.

Yeah, but did this ever happen? There was never any follow up, and I dont remember Ricky Warwick posting anything about writing with Ginger.

Two, if I recall correctly. The one Jason released on his album ( "One Less Heartache" ) & they also did a cover of a Scorchers tune ( "Jimmie Rodgers Last Blue Yodel" I think it was ) . Then something went wrong later ( I think there was a fire at the studio or something ) & the 2nd tune was lost forever.

I think it was covered in an "Ask Ginger".

Doesn't look like it.

I know he did a set with Paul Gilbert covering surrender.

"Project #1" was just a working title given to whatever Ginger intended to deliver to Mercury Japan. In the end he delivered Black Leather Mojo. So the "EP" doesn't exist, and never did - the project was just allocated an advance serial number by the label which a certain dealer picked up off the schedules and advertised as a forthcoming release.

Hadn't heard anything about Last Blue Yodel being lost forever - what's the source of this info pls?

As my learned friend DiggityDawg said, there were two: the Jason/Ginger co-write One Less Heartache, which made it on to Jason's album All Over Creation; and Jimmie Rodgers' Last Blue Yodel, a Jimmie Rodgers tune that the Scorchers had covered in a rocked-up fashion.

The latter was going to be included on a country record that Ginger was planning... but the tape disappeared when the studio closed down. Ginger said that the studio had gone bust, but I don't know the story beyond the upshot: that Last Blue Yodel was missing, presumed dead. I was surprised that no one had even taken a CD-R home from the session - not even Jason - but, sadly, it appears to be the case.

I covered the session for (as it was at the time) Ginger's website, and the article is still up, if you're interested. My, sadly fading, memory of Last Blue Yodel is that it was a honking great beast of a track - like a hulking freight train running off the rails, driven by Jason's harmonica, which was cranked to the point of distortion. There have been many times I've thought about the session and wished I'd had the cheekiness to start my dictaphone running during the track's recording. At least some fragments of it would still exist.

Hiya Jason

There's an Ask Ginger quote that does the biz (and a lot more concisely than I just have): "...the studio got sold, the taped destroyed and no one I know has a copy. Amazing, huh?"

While I'm here, I'd just like to point out that 'Jimmie Rodgers' is actually part of the song's title, as the sentence above looks like a cock-up otherwise. Mr Rodgers occasionally liked to namecheck himself, the vain bugger.

Hmmm, a song that Jason & The Scorchers covered that Ginger also turned up on a version of...

I wonder when we might ever get the chance to hear that live..?

Thanks for all the replies....They've been very, very helpful. One more question though.
I was looking through various Cd sale websites and came across the 'Valor Del...' Japanese Import. I have a good few imports - but this one escaped me!!! Are the 3 bonus tunes live or studio?

And it must be said, they're all VERY good - if you look on Amazon.co.uk there are a couple of marketplace sellers selling them for a reasonable price, I got both Yoni & Valor japanese imports for about £25.00 inc postage.
