Important news for anyone going to Frisco date

Postby Dr.J.Jones » 28th Aug 07, 03:48

Just in case anyone is unaware, the San Francisco date is 21 & over only! The Fat City club, like most clubs in the US has stupid licensing laws meaning anyone under the age of 21 can't get in.

This really pisses me off as I was hoping to take my 19 year old stepson to see, what he would consider, the best band alive. This is about the third time we have missed them. We had tickets for the Bottom Of The Hill club only for them to cancel to tour with The Darkness instead (which didn't include a date in Frisco), then we had tickets for the New York shows earlier in the year but for the visa fiasco & now we won't seen them this time because you have to be 21 & over!

So I thought I would just let everyone know, especially if you are coming from abroad, they will check your ID before entering & no matter how far you have come or how long you have loved Ginger & the boys, if you are under 21 you won't get in.

From one very angry & annoyed stepdad who has seen the band on nearly every tour & Ginger when he was in the Quireboys!

Thanks for posting that news... I am sure that anyone going there will appreciate knowing this.

Seriously though... this is worth it. Make the kid a fake ID. He's 19! You know he's not gonna learn anything bad from this. He would probably think you're the coolest person in the world for it, actually, and what stepdad doesn't want that? If you don't want him to drink just stop him from drinking. And destroy the ID when you're done. But at least get him in that club! Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it's wrong.

Is it worth explaining your situation to the club? I've heard of UK clubs making exceptions, especially if they realise that there's they won't drink or cause any bother, they might be able to turn a blind eye??? But hey I've not a clue about SF clubs....

Otherwise 'Do The Fake'!

As an American I can testify that there are places who will let just about anyone through the door, never checking ID's, and not caring either way... but there are also places that wouldn't let Al Gore through the door with an expired driver's license.

There's pretty much no way at all to know which type of place this is.

I seriously wouldn't chance it at a place like Fat City. It's not that they're being bloody minded, it's their risk of being busted by the authorities for having under agers on the premises.

Dr. Jones, I'll drop you a PM when I'm back in town!

I'd call the club and ask.

In Pennsylvania, a minor (under 21) can be allowed in an establishment which has a liquor license when accompanied by a parent or guardian, provided they do not sit at the bar. This allows minors to eat dinner in pubs, and to see bands that are playing in pubs.

However, some clubs will still refuse to admit under 21s (to completely cover their liability, I guess.)

I don't know if California has a similarly worded law or not, but it's worth a call to the club to see if a 19-year-old in the company of a parent can attend the show.

I think that Dr. Jones' post of 28th August has already addressed this.

Reading posts like this makes me glad to live in the uk were most gigs are either 14 or 16 plus (and tbh thats not really adhered to, ive seen quite a few very young kids with their parents). and normally if a venue doesnt have the right license theyll have an early show for under 18s then the band will play again for over 18s. and tbh its quite easy to gain acess to drink in alot of places.

I remember my first ever gig when i went to see therapy? the guy on the doors like "how old are you" and i panicked that i wouldnt get in so im like 18, the security asked for id and i nearly cried and then my dad who was with me was like Its only for a bar wristband you can still get in and i fuckin smiled like fuck and went in.

I agree with the fake id Idea, and tbh American laws are a bit stupid, 21 to get into clubs and drink? its only 18 here
