and Mark Keds is in second stage rehab after battling a heroin addiction. Keds will be performing at the tribute concert to the late Mega City Four / Ipanema guitarist Wiz.

Keds was in a band called The Lams for a while and their message board was unbelievable. There was some kind of war going on between him and shady East London gangsters and drug dealers. There were death threats posted, some nasty accusations and stories (supposedly) posted by thugs who'd been paid to beat Keds up! It was riveting stuff but nasty to see it all played out in the public domain. V. glad to see Mark Keds on the road to recovery though, he did some amazing stuff with The Senseless Things, Jolt, The Lams and (of course) briefly with The Wildhearts, wish him all the best for the future!

Hadn't heard of the Lams, just checked out their myspace page and their not too bad.

Was quite shocked at the pics of Mark though and how clearly unwell he was. Hate seeing people in that kind of state......

I think Mark Keds also co-wrote the Pete Doherty and Wolfman no. 2 smash 'For Lovers' a few years back. Although beef between him and the other 2 may have precluded him from a writing credit. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong music geeks!

Sam - He also co-wrote "Can't Stand Me Now which I think
was originally intended for the lams.......but Mark was good
friends with Pete Doherty so the Libertines used it.

I think that's ironic that perhaps with one song Mark has made
just as much money (I would think) than when he was with the
Senseless things who i thought were very very underated......there taking care of business album was so big, bold and polished, production wise sort of reminded
me of p.h.u.q......some quality tunes, and with some of the other members
going onto play with Muse, The Gorliaz and the Streets it's not suprising.

Also a lot of Pete Doherty fans I know haven't even heard of senseless things....
I feel a lot of their stuff in the early 1990's was probably better than babyshambles/libertines ect......you can see the sort of resemblence except for these
modern bands prefer the clean guitar sound and not distorted!!!!!

On a slightly negative note - I also saw the forum, which was fascinitating
yet slightly frightening/bizarre at the same time..... Some of the comments were disturbing to say the least, mostly from these other characters, I hope Mark has sorted himself out as he seems a genuinely nice person, it was weird reading it all as it took you to a bad place.......gangsta type characters ect......and actually a lot of it was based around the world of Pete Doherty and his management...........

There's always more to people than meets the eye!!

never knew about the pete doherty link and the fact that he seems to have dropped mark in a world of shit proves he is an eeven bigger wanker than i thought he was.
interesting that the only two libertines/doeherty "songs" with anything resembling a tune come from from the pen of keds.

also thanks to this link i spent most of the weekend listening to my sensless things cds. quality :D
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

It explains why they are the only two tunes I liked by the Libs.

Dirty Pretty Things though are quite tasty must admit.

Anyway, wish Mark Keds all the best and a speedy recovery.

I'm pretty sure that Keds didnt write For Lovers and Can't Stand Me Know, plus why would it be Pete who got him on the drugs?? Surely he has a mind of his own and would probably be on the drugs before he met Pete. Anyway i hope the rehab works out for him more than it has for Pete.

Mark Keds writes on his myspace page

"turns out the money i got from writing 'Cant Stand Me Now' did come in handy after all -"

Wikipedia says
The song was written by Carl Barât & Peter Doherty with Mark Keds (also know as Mark Myers) who was previously in bands such as the Senseless Things, The Wildhearts and Jolt.

And to your second point... It was probably The Wildhearts who got him into drugs...

Alternatively it could be the rock n roll lifestyle that got him into drugs

That's interesting.

Someone bought me The Libertines' album after I kept playing 'Can't Stand Me Now' over and over from a Q CD.

It's pretty much the only thing I ever play from the album. Love the blast of harmonica at the end.

I know the Wildhearts, er... "chemical mismanagment" has been well documented, but I would say, in general, the life of a musician lends itself to being in an environment where hard drugs are constantly around.

I don't know about Keds's specific circumstances, but it is a bit unfair to blame one particular person (e.g Doherty) or band (e.g. the Wildhearts) for someone's addictions.

I just wish him, and other people in a similar position, to continue to make progress against battling heroin addiction.

On a more upbeat note, anyone seen the Sensless Things (temporary) reformation on youtube at the Wiz tribute gig? They sound fookin fantastic.
