So you never did spot your local postie then...guess next time he'll have to come in uniform  :P

Nah, but next time I see him in the street I'll check if he's got a Ginger t-shirt on - and plot my revenge if he has

Though it'd definately not be like the good old days...it would actually be quite cool to see a postie in a Ginger t-shirt....

not sure whether i should be writing this knowing that ginge will possibly read it but here goes anyway.

we went to the manchester and the nottingham gigs(which i thought was personly better, maybe cause of the alcohol intake) but what i missed was the banter and the piss taking and the jovial interaction we used to get at ginger acoustic gigs.

ok, the personel has changed (from hot steve and random to scott and chris) but their didn't seem to be the chemistry that there used to be at the old gigs.but also you could say about the old gigs, been there, done that, repeatition is boring.

yes chris and scott are awesome musicians but 4 me there was that little thing missing

the gigs were maybe TOO serious.

having said that though both gigs were good gigs but thats all they were. maybe my expectations were to high after the wildhearts gigs last year and thats not gingers fault

well thats it roll on the next ginger project.

PS MARKET HARBOUR really is the best thing outside the wildhearts he's done

PPS well maybe after SG5

It's hard to make out, was this the first time you've seen him live? Or just first acoustic gig?

First time in any guise...although I have been a WH/Ginger fan for a while...

I *really* tried to enjoy it...but combinations of grumpiness and crowd and high expectations, it just didn't cut it...

Pete

Try not to let it completely disuade you, everybody has a bad gig now and then (and I'll admit this tour seems to be batting below average), but WH gigs are usually something pretty special.

Actually one of the things that first struck me when I was looking at my pictures of the Sheffield gig was the expressions of sober concentration on all parties involved.
That is, until the skeleton fondling incident.

That's a fair chunk of every gig though. I think he finds it easier to concentrate on the vocals.

That guy was out of it - when he tried to get on stage he fell flat on his face, then he almost knocked the PA flying, then dislodged Ginger's guitar pedal...when he did finally get off stage he stayed at the front, leaning over the monitors and swaying around, the lurch back onto the stage was another attempt at being part of the band, I think!

He was absolutely clueless as to why Ginger had pushed him away, he was wandering around afterwards saying 'Did you see that? What was that all about?'

When the guy leaned in, Ginger got really close to him and said: "You need to learn how to behave yourself, mate", then pushed him back onto the floor from on the edge of the stage. I think it just looked worse than it was 'cos the guy had no sense of balance left at that point.

Quite right. Anybody ever find out what the third best song ever is?

Well Winchester was a really great night. Ginger was in a very good mood so we got a fair amount of banter too. Best to draw a veil over the local support act, it would be kindest to say that perhaps the acoustic nature of the gig threw them. Eureka Machines were excellent again and in a moment of beer fuelled silliness I am now the proud possessor of a Eureka Machines Tea Bag (as dunked by Chris Catalyst).

We were also able to bask in the presence of the God like genius that is Tim Smith a thoroughly nice bloke who spoke to myself and daughter for quite some time, not the most co-ordinated of people when he talks ALL of him moves, the daughter ended up with a shoe full of his Kronenburg.

Ginger and all were enjoying themselves so much they lost track of time but I seem to remember 'A little bit of gravy' getting an airing at the end.

What next?

To be perfectly honest if he did I didn't catch it, I know I asked but the 'between bands' music was so loud it was hard to converse properly. Also rather shamefully I was a little in awe and just wanted to say thanks for giving me what was probably my best ever gig (at the Astoria a couple of Christmases ago) I was also away buying him a pint for some time. The daughter spoke to him for longer (hence the wet foot) because she used to live near him around Salisbury, I will ask her if he let anything slip.

This thread is interesting. I thought that the Glasgow gig was a lot of fun with a lot of funny banter from Chris and Ginger and a very 'up' mood after a (literally) slowish start in terms of songs.

I admit I hadn't seen Ginger live in about 2 years and I kind of assumed it was always this jolly now, given all the positivity about solo and WH work. Hmm.

ha ha, I've just been reading more about the story of this on the blog. I can see a rapidly expanding merchandise section here... Does it have one of those little paper tags on the end of the string?

A picture of the teabag with its new owner will be on the EM site before the evening's out...

Just back from St Albans - here's a few brief comments:

- Eureka Machines were great (despite some ignorant audience members' best efforts to talk over them).

- Ginger was in a really chatty and 'up' mood. He acknowledged the recent run of gigs had not always been great: "hey, I'm human" was the gist of it. Plenty of audience participation and witty banter was had.

- As has been said, these were probably the last gigs of this format for a while. Next time it'll have a drummer.

- We got around 1hr 50m of the usual suspects. Dreaming In A was a little unexpected. No technical hitches (apart from Ginger's guitar being a little out of tune).

Perhaps the biggest news of the night was this....

There are plans for a Wildhearts gig, during which they will play the first album and B-sides. It will be in London (not the Astoria, apparently) and will be filmed.

Not sure how certain this is, but the man himself said it...so just passing it on.

All in all, a very enjoyable night.
